Family Dollar Decision Is Not Family Friendly

On March 30 our blog titled “Adding Tobacco to the Dollar Chain” discussed Family Dollar’s decision to start selling tobacco in its dollar/discount stores.  While the store stresses its commitment to providing food, health products and household goods at discounted prices, selling tobacco at its stores has nothing to do with a healthy family.

Family Dollar admits their core customer is a low-income, high smoking individual.  Providing tobacco products at lower prices takes money away from already strained household budgets.  Lower prices also provide teens greater access to tobacco products.
