Chaining Yourself, Not Breaking Free

Yesterday New York City banned smoking in their parks and tobacco giant R.J. Reynolds didn’t hesitate to let people know they could still enjoy tobacco without lighting up, all they have to do is swallow.  In a full page ad the tobacco giant told smokers to “reclaim” their city by using their smokeless tobacco product that is placed between the cheek and gum.  No lighting up or spitting.  A warning of gum disease and tooth loss is clearly visible on the ad, but there is no mention that smokeless tobacco increases your risk of oral cancer.   So, enjoy your new freedom from smoking, and keep a lookout for a red or white patch that doesn’t go away, mouth sores, lumps and trouble swallowing.
